When people discuss bi-polar disorder they refer to a condition known as manic depression. Bi-Polar people exhibit sudden changes from a very good mood to a very bad mood. It is just another in the many forms of depression. Manic depression is not the same as just being sad or upset for over something in particular. Manic depression is more serious than that. The diagnosis of being Bi-Polar is just another stage of the disease of depression. Millions of people in the United States are diagnosed with Manic Depression every year. In general 17 million people battle depression each year in America.
Unfortunately only about1/3 of those will be diagnosed and receive help. When the sufferer refuses aid, there can be no cure. Mental illness is a red stop sign for many Americans, they don't want to deal with it. The negative image of someone who is “nuts” is just too much for them. It's very complex when a disease impacts the brain. It is hard to shake the stigma that comes with the diagnosis. However, as with any form of depression, the affliction does not make you less a person. It does not mean that you are a nut case. It means you have an illness like any other. If it's identified it can be cured.
All forms of depression are still being studied by doctors and researchers. There are many factors that bring on depression. Doctors take into consideration many things such as biological factors, the environment, and DNA. It's well known that a chemical imbalance can contribute. We also know that stress can play a major role in the advent of depression. Life is full of stress. It can be problems at work, in our relationships with those we love or facing the reality of trying to survive week to week. Depression does not play favorites. Both the rich and the poor contract it. Race isn't an issue. No color or nationality is free from this illness.
All the types of depression have similar symptoms. Dramatic shifts in personality and up and down mood swings are some. Depression can result in insomnia. Helpless feelings, or feelings that the future holds no hope are signs. Depression is real when it interferes with your ability to live your life. But the depression afflicted have hope. Help is available. Prescription medications as well as natural herbs can cure it. There are also medical professionals that can help your illness through 'talk therapy'”. Support groups can be of assistance with manic depression. The first step in the cure is seeking the assistance.

Before you can treat depression you have to know exactly what you are dealing with. Depression is no laughing matter because about 15 million people in America suffer from it. The most difficult part of it is that about 2/3 of those people won't seek treatment. The old stereotypes of mental illness still bother too many people. People consider their reputation and what others will think of someone who is nuts. To treat depression first it has to be diagnosed. To be diagnosed, those that suffer have to seek assistance. It is a circle that continues to affect all the players involved.
Depression stems from many things. Depression can be brought on by biological, emotional, environmental and physical factors . DNA also has a role. Many diseases are passed on through a family. It is not just family history but family life in general. Daily life includes tremendous stress. The constant struggle just to survive bothers some. Even success and fitting into society can be the problem for others. Then there are the circumstances where individuals have been abused physically, emotionally or sexually and are overcome with despair. The list isn't a short one.
Depression is often hard to find in its early form. It's hard to see the symptoms even if a loved one suffers from this illness. Everyone gets down in the dumps once in a while. It's common. Depression is more than just temporary sadness. It's already too late for early detection when the symptoms interfere with life. Those suffering from depression tend to feel all alone and disgusted with life. They no longer recognize any hope for their life. Their sleep habits and simple enjoyments in life begin to be effected in a negative way. At this point treatment has become literally a matter of life and death.
In treating depression you have to reinstall hope and purpose into those that are suffering. This is typically achieved through 'talk therapy'. This treatment can take months or years to bring about positive results but it is effective. Anti-depressants like Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celex, or Luvox can also help . Although they have some serious side effects, these medicines work. Depression treatment with natural herbs has also proven to work well. There are also many depression support groups geared towards working with depressed individuals. If you or someone you love are feeling the affects of depression please consult a medical professional immediately.

Depression Support Groups

17 million people in the USA suffer from depression, a serious and real medical condition considered a mental illness. Many types of depression exist. The outlook is almost certain if not treated, a slow progression from minor depression to major depression. When an inflicted person reaches the point of major depression than the possibility of attempted suicide is seriously enhanced. But a major problem is that people don't face their depression. They refuse to seek assistance because they do not want to be stereotyped as crazy or out of their head. The risk is, they think, a label of not normal.
Nothing could be further from the truth. It is considered today that depression is a mental illness that's real. It is seen as another disease, like cancer or heart disease. As bad as depression can be there is a cure. Those who suffer from this illness do have options. Of course the cure must be sought before it can be administered. You have to identify the symptoms and then address the issue. It is not a passing illness that will simply go away. Care is required. Different causes contribute to depression. The depression problem is found in people who suffer from stress, have biological or genetic tendencies, or suffer from emotional issues.
Depression treatments come in a variety of forms. Anti-depressants are often prescribed to treat it. There are also natural herbs that can be taken that have been proven to help control the effects of depression. Talk therapy has also proven effective to address the disease. A popular solution for depression is the depression support group often portrayed on television or in the movies. Depression support therapy with a group allows people to talk through their issues with others. They get to associate and learn from those who suffer from the same illness.
It's now becoming more common to participate in a depression support group. Not everyone can talk about the disease. They do not wish to face others with their problem. But depression support groups help many people free up locked away thoughts by discussing them with others. When others open up then even the shy ones gain confidence in discussing their own problems and feelings. There's no reason for patients to be isolated, others share the same problem. If you or someone you love is suffering from depression please consider a depression support group as a method of assisting you with your illness.

Depression Medications

Depression is more than sadness or feeling depressed for a few days. A serious condition that can last months or even years, that's depression. According to various reports as many as fifteen million Americans suffer from this disease. And yet, sadly, only about 1/3 of those people seek medical care. All too often people avoid recognizing or admitting that they suffer from depression because of the negative archetypes associated with mental illnesses. Of the list of progressive ailments depression is one of the worst. It will get worse without treatment. People should pay attention to the signs.
A variety of factors, and even combinations of these factors, lead to depression. Physical and emotional problems, chemical issues, even DNA all play a part. The day to day lives of the victim may even have a role. Stress and other negative influences have been known to contribute. Complicated diseases like depression aren't easy to crack. As well, the human brain and its workings are quite complex. The medical profession is working steadily in an attempt to study the mind and how it works. It's clear that it's an imbalance of chemical compounds in the brain that creates depression. Researches learn more about this complex series of actions and reactions with passing time. The phrase is “learning is half the battle” and with depression knowledge is power.
Depression can be treated with a host of available medications. Miracle treatments also exist, but many times these are empty claims. You have to be careful to seek medications that have been clinically studied and have been proven to display positive effects in the treatment of depression. Not too long ago people who were considered mentally ill were thrown into asylums, never again to be seen or heard. That is a thing of the past, thank goodness. The anti-depressant Prozac first came into use in the USA in 1988. Although it has side effects it is widely used and it is effective.
Since then a new class of anti-depressants has become popular as well. The SSRI or (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) like Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celexa, and Luvox are all being used to treat depression today. These have limited side effects and have been shown to work. Herbal medications also have a place in this market. Hyperforin, an ingredient in the St. John Wort extract, is common in those that seem to work as well as anti-depressants. When this is present in the proper quantity it is a winner. When seeking depression medications that work ask questions, do your research, and know the facts.

Cures for Depression

There are many different forms of depression. Without realizing it or accepting it, many Americans suffer from some sort of depression. Studies estimate that at least 14 million Americans suffer from depression. Fewer than 4.7 million of those, about 1/3, will seek medical help. Why is this the case? Mental illness is a scary concept, and that's where depression has been filed. That label is one people tend to avoid. People who suffered from mental illness were, at one time in history, ridiculed by society. It was common to lock away people in facilities for the mentally ill when they exhibited signs of depression. Fortunately times have changed. But what hasn't changed are old stereotypes. Many Americans keep their problem to themselves, motivated by this.
Many elements make up depression. Diagnosis isn't simple. Many things have to be considered such as genetics, biology and even outside influences. Drug abusers and alcoholics can develop depression, but so can people just dealing with every day life situations and stress. These elements and more can lead to depression. So what are some of the treatments and cures available for those that are inflicted? There are many options for treatment and even cure, just as there are many causes for depression. It comes down to a case by case consideration as to which options are best for someone who suffers depression
A lot of claimed cures for depression exist. Methods of treatment that are safe and that work to cure depression do exist. When considering which option is best there are a few considerations that must be examined. Is the treatment proven clinically to be effective for depression? If it is medication, herbal or prescription, does it have the proven amount of ingredients to induce a positive result? Has the method been tested under an appropriate level of scientific method? It's time to take a look at some of the more accepted cures.
To treat many forms of depression doctors have typically prescribed a combination of drugs and psychotherapy. Prescription anti-depressants like SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are often prescribed as a treatment for depression. First used in the U.S. In 1988, Prozac has become on of the most common. Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celexa, and Luvox are just some of those that followed it. All of these work. But side effects are common, including causing more depression. That's the reason natural treatments are gaining popularity. St Johns Wort extract is one herbal cure gaining popularity quickly. In order to work it must contain between 3 and 5 % hyperforin. Studies and actual cases show it to be as effective as Prozac but with fewer side effects. If those who have the disease don't seek treatment, a cure does no good. Seek medical care at once if you or a loved one suffer from depression.
